NeuroLexIQ and Canary Speech Begin Concussion Voice Data Collection

The partnership is gathering voice data to build a phone based tool that flags possible concussions early for personal injury clients

NeuroLexIQ and Canary Speech have begun collecting voice data from participants with and without concussions to support development of a voice based concussion alert tool.

The goal is to create a phone based tool that can help identify a client's possible concussion and signal when objective evidence collection is warranted.

Building on Canary Speech's Healthcare Experience

Canary Speech has developed AI voice biomarker analysis for mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, anxiety, depression, and other neurological, cognitive, and behavioral health conditions.

Canary's technology is integrated with Microsoft Dragon Copilot. The company is also working with Intermountain Health, through its innovation arm, on an IRB approved study examining whether vocal biomarkers can help identify multiple sclerosis.

Canary is now bringing that model and development experience to its concussion voice collection project with NeuroLexIQ.

Why Begin With Personal Injury?

Concussions are difficult to study because injured individuals are scattered across emergency departments, physicians' offices, athletic programs, and other settings. Many are never evaluated.

Although concussion research is often associated with sports, NeuroLexIQ identified personal injury law firms as the most organized place to find recently injured individuals with possible concussions.

Law firms regularly speak with people soon after automobile collisions, falls, and other accidents, creating an opportunity to collect voice data while symptoms and other time sensitive evidence may still be present.

“Concussions in sports have long carried national attention, but access has always been the challenge. Through our partnership with NeuroLexIQ, we’ve found a structured environment where brain injuries are identifiable at intake, allowing earlier and more consistent engagement. We’re excited to advance detection and bring what we learn back to healthcare systems, sports, and other environments where early identification can make a difference.”

A Neutral Alert, Not a Diagnosis

The tool will not diagnose a concussion, replace a medical professional, or independently prove a brain injury.

It is being developed as an early alert to help determine whether additional evaluation and evidence collection may be warranted. When an alert raises concern, action can be taken before symptoms fade and the injury becomes more difficult to document.

When no concern is raised, the information may help attorneys and clients avoid committing resources to an injury that is not supported by the available evidence. However, the absence of an alert would not conclusively rule out a concussion. Symptoms, accident dynamics, medical history, and clinical judgment must still be considered.

“NeuroLexIQ is not designed to find a concussion in every case. Our purpose is to provide early, neutral information that helps attorneys and clients decide whether further action is warranted.”

Looking Beyond Litigation

Personal injury provides an organized place to begin, but the mission extends beyond litigation. The information collected may support future concussion alert tools for healthcare systems, athletic programs, workplaces, and other environments where concussions can be missed.
